Tehn. “Anghel Saligny”, Turţ Date: Grade: 5th Lesson title: All about food Textbook: Right on, Uniscan Timing: 50 minutes Lesson type: mixed – revision of food and drinks + introduction of new information – expressing preferences (like, love, don’t like/dislike, hate + vb.+ing) Skills: speaking, writing, video watching Aids: videos, textbooks, pictures Lesson aims: By the end of the lesson, the students will be able to: • Identify food and drink items in videos and pictures. • Express their likes and dislikes related to foods and drinks. • Make dialogues ( ask and answer to questions) with food and drinks likes and dislikes. STAGES: Activity 1- Organising the class (5 min.) Teacher’s activity: enters the classroom, greets, asks if anybody is absent, checks the homework and corrects the mistakes, if any. Student’s activity: greet, answer to teacher’s questions, check their homework and correct the possible mistakes. Class management: whole-class activity Skills: speaking, reading, writing. Activity 2 – Warm up – Video watching (20 min.) Teacher’s activity: explains to students that they are going to watch 6 short cartoons which contain pictures of food and drinks and that they have to write a list of the spotted items, in their notebooks, for each cartoon, in pairs. She plays the videos, listens to the students’ answers and corrects the mistakes, if any. Students’ activity: watch the cartoons and write down the food and drinks items the spot. They report to the class and correct the mistakes, if any. Class management: pair-work activity Skills: video watching, speaking, writing Activity 3 – Matching food and drinks with pictures (5 min.) Teacher’s activity: elicits the students to look at some pictures in the textbook, page 82 and match them, with some food and drink words (e.g. biscuits – picture 6, meat – picture 7, cucumbers- picture 1, etc.). She listens to the students’ answers and corrects the mistakes, if any. Students’ activity: look at the pictures, match them with the words, report to the class and correct their mistakes, if any. Class management: individual activity Skills: writing, speaking Activity 4 – Expressing likes and dislikes (10 min.) Teacher’s activity: explains to students that the verbs used to express likes and dislikes ( like, love, don’t like/dislike and hate) are followed by verbs ending in ING ( E.g. I like eating chocolate./ I dislike drinking milk./ I love eating pizza./ I hate drinking soda.). Then, she elicits them to look again at the pictures from the textbook, pages 82-83 and to orally express their likes and dislikes, using the rule above and corrects the mistakes, if any. Students’ activity: listen carefully to the rules explained by the teacher, look at the pictures and orally express their likes and dislike about food and drinks. They correct their mistakes, if any. Class management: whole-class activity Skills: speaking Feedback – Short dialogues – likes and dislikes (5 min.) Teacher’s activity: elicits the students to make a short dialogue, in pairs, about food likes and dislikes, following her example: S1: Do you like eating cucumbers? S2: Yes, I like eating cucumbers. Do you like drinking milk? S1: No, I don’t like drinking milk. She listens to the students’ answers and corrects the mistakes, if any. Students’ activity: solve the task, report to the class and correct the mistakes, if any. Class management: pair-work activity Skills: writing, speaking Assigning homework (5 min.) Teacher’s activity: The teacher elicits the students to write 4 sentences, using the verbs like, dislike, love, hate, to express their preferences, following her example: I like drinking juice./ I dislike eating cheese./ I love eating apples./ I hate drinking tea.
