Taste the Difference: Exploring Food, Culture and Wellbeing through eTwinning

Food is much more than something we eat as it tells the story of our culture, traditions and way of life. This was the idea behind the eTwinning project "Taste the Difference", which brought together students and teachers from Romania, Italy, Spain and Greece in an exciting journey of language learning, cultural exchange and healthy living.

The project combined the learning of English and French with activities focused on food, wellbeing and intercultural awareness. Throughout the school year, students discovered traditional dishes from the partner countries, explored foods from around the world and discussed the importance of healthy eating and balanced lifestyles. They also learned about foods associated with national celebrations, cultural events and festivals, gaining a deeper appreciation of the traditions that make each country unique.

Collaboration was at the heart of every activity. Teachers met regularly online to plan and coordinate the project, while students participated in interactive online workshops where they shared ideas, worked in international teams and improved their communication skills.

One of the most enjoyable activities was the creation of the original song "Do You Like?", in which students combined different food items to practise vocabulary in a fun and memorable way. Music became an engaging tool for language learning and encouraged creativity and teamwork.

Students also worked together to create colourful puzzle pieces featuring recipes from around the world and interesting food facts, producing a collaborative resource that reflects the diversity of international cuisine. Another successful activity was the chain drawing, in which each partner country added colours and artistic touches to fruit and vegetable illustrations, creating unique collaborative artworks that symbolised cooperation across borders.

Beyond language learning, the project promoted important values such as respect for cultural diversity, healthy habits, creativity, digital competence and international collaboration. By sharing experiences and learning from one another, students discovered that although each country has its own culinary traditions, healthy eating and the joy of sharing food are values that unite us all.

The project has also created lasting educational resources. The song, collaborative drawings and recipe puzzles will continue to be used in future language lessons, healthy lifestyle activities, school exhibitions and new eTwinning collaborations, ensuring the sustainability of the project's outcomes.

"Taste the Difference" demonstrated that learning becomes more meaningful when students work together, celebrate cultural diversity and discover the world through shared experiences. The project strengthened friendships across Europe while helping students develop language, digital and social skills that will benefit them well beyond the classroom.
